Today we went on a suicide bike run walk that was 34 miles long from Kyle to Wanblee. We first started at the school in Kyle with a prayer and a smudging. This was very interesting to watch and also participate in since it was a completely new experience for me. We then began our journey. Along the way to Wanblee people had set up memorials to honor their loved ones that they had lost to suicide. Tony, two of our leadership campers (Ketch and Martin) and I pushed ourselves through all 30+ miles and 67 hills in the exerting ride. It was very cool to see how much drive and resilience the two campers had. Tony and I had to try and catch up to the two a couple of times. It was enlightening to see everyone from the community come together for one cause and help others out. Two miles outside of Wanblee, all participants gathered in the middle of the road for another prayer and smudging. We then all walked together for the last two miles of the journey into Wanblee. Families affected by suicide led the parade carrying banners of their lost loved ones.
