Today on June 21st we went to the pow wow. The pow wow is where a lot of the Native people of all ages get all dressed up in feathers, beads, and bright colors. They have all different types of dances that they do. Most of the dances are split up by age. The little kids would go out into the circle and dance the native dances. Native families would sit together in a little circle around the center circle, and each family would take turns singing and drumming in Lakota. It was all very traditional. I personally admire the tradition of culture. I have never experienced anything like the pow wow in my life. What was especially fun for me was that one of our youth leadership campers found me at the pow wow and we spent the afternoon and evening together. It was special to have this new friend seek me out at the pow wow and spend time with me.
