Today traveling through the Badlands, I pictured a scene from the Lion King. It was an experience like no other. Driving through them seeing all of the structures, no two were alike, it wasn’t just flat land, it was hills and structures, full of life. We kept trying to look for the buffalo or rams, but only saw the cattle throughout. While I thought the whole land was considered the Badlands, I kept asking what the structures were called, everyone kept saying those structures were the Badlands. I argued “no that is not what I am asking, what is the name for the mountain things!” Coming to find out, the “mountain things”, are in fact the Badlands. The Badlands are massive, corroded structures of rock that overlook the beautiful plains below. Although we never saw the buffalo and rams, the view from our hike was an experience of its own. Learning that the area itself, is just plains and the structures within are really the Badlands have really changed what I think of when I think of them. The views were beautiful and looking at all the different structures were amazing to see new shapes throughout.
