Today; Tuesday the 14th was our first day in camp Kyle South Dakota. These team building fun activities took place in a TLP Center. Many different age groups from the Lakota nation came to this center from many different distances to enjoy these fun activities. Out first activity of the day was a “That’s Me” activity that has about 10 different statements, and if other people like that activity, they rise their hand and say “that’s me!”
As a starting activity some people were a little shy but still it was fun icebreaker to help us get to know one another. The main activity that really helped make everyone participate and have fun with one another was the drawing of characteristics of what a leader should look like or some important traits a leader should have. This allowed us to split into a few different groups and ask some of the Lakota members what they believe is important in being a leader. Some drew some big hearts, brains, eyes and muscle to represent having empathy, smarts, watching out for everyone and for being strong and a watch man to keep everyone safe. The day was really fun, full of activities but that activity really opened everyone up a lot more and really jump started the day leading to a lot of shared information and fun with plenty more to come.
