Lisa, Monica, Alex and I volunteered at Re-Member which is an organization that builds bunk beds, wheelchair ramps and other things.
Alex and Monica were with one group that skirted a trailer house. This project is vital for for the owners because it adds insulation to lower energy costs. They were troopers. The temperature was in the mid 90s while they sawed wood to create frames, dig holes and a whole lot more. However, the highlight for Monica was an adorable puppy who followed her around and chased her shoe laces.
Lisa and I were with a different group that built a wheelchair ramp for someone. After taking the scenic route (ie: our driver got lost 3 times) we arrived at our destination. We were in the same blazing heat as Alex and Monica and doing a lot of the same work, sawing, drilling and digging holes. I could lie and say my highlight was learning to use a power saw but let’s face it the three boys that lived at the house were entertaining and adorable. The youngest was 3 and the oldest was maybe 7 or 8. They ran around, played tag and eventually sat down to build towers with the cast off wooden blocks.
- Lisa received a job offer from a wonderful woman named Joyce who also lives in Madison.
- Taylor swift is always on the radio anytime we are driving in the blue minivan.
- Monica and I have another two days of this!
