Teaching Stress (10/27)

Today I went to Crazy Horse school where Sara and I presented a teaching on stress to a group of 4th graders. Sara and I did some fun activities with the kids that they seemed to really enjoy. We started out by asking them what makes them happy, sad or mad. Then we went into our demonstration with the rubber bands and how the rubber bands can represent what could happen to our body under stress. Then we went into our first activity where we showed them different breathing techniques to use when they feel stressed. Some of the kids said that the breathing techniques would really help them in future. Some other activities we did with them were the stress balls. We told the kids to think of something that would make them mad and squeeze the ball as hard as they can. The kids really enjoyed this activity and almost all the kids said that they would use that technique as a way to release stress. We also gave a stress ball to the teacher so the kids could have access to that when needed. Our last activity was the mandalas. This was their favorite activity. Every one of them loved to color so when we told them we were going to color they were very excited. My experience with teaching a class of 4th graders went very well and it was a really cool experience to have.
