This week the inaugural Global Partners volunteer surgery team is at the Rosebud Indian Health Service hospital! This team has been very warmly welcomed, and a local elder gave a cultural presentation on Monday morning as part of their orientation.
Pictured below are volunteers Ellen Hanson, RN, Jeanne Johnson, MD, and Sara Gonstead, RN- this was taken on Monday as they were getting set for their first day of surgery. Behind the camera is fearless team leader and Global Partners staff member, Lisa Sauer.
Rosebud IHS has not had a general surgeon onsite for a number of months so this team is helping patients get the services they need while IHS continues efforts to recruit a more permanent surgeon. All the scheduled patients have showed up for their surgeries, so there is no shortage of work to keep them busy. Today IHS is closed with it being Veteran’s Day, so the team plans to participate in a Veteran’s Day ceremony on Rosebud and enjoy other site-seeing and cultural activities throughout the day.
Below is a photo that we posted back in September… Rosebud IHS put up this great display board to “advertise” the Gundersen teams coming and encourage patients to make appointments… which they have! Next week a gastroenterology team will be onsite at Rosebud and the schedule is PACKED. We feel honored to be invited to develop new partnerships on Rosebud.
Stay tuned for more updates this week and next.
