To start the day, we worked with our group – Wambli (older boys from the children’s camp) – on a variety of fun and educational activities. We began with outdoor teambuilding exercises and were able to watch trust develop within the group as some boys took on leadership roles, and the group worked cohesively to reach their goals. During our next activities – completing a feeling thermometer and playing the feeling dice game – the hard work continued, and there were some really insightful comments by each group member about feelings and family relationships.
After lunch, the entire Children’s Camp headed to the cinema and to Storybook Island where they were able to take the time to just have fun and be kids. It was so wonderful to watch them run and play, and has also been gratifying to see the relationships strengthen among families and relatives. One camp member commented “my favorite part is spending time with the mentors.” We ended the night at camp by sharing a traditional meal including a stew, huckleberry, and fry bread.
