Time flies when you’re having fun. Our HSA class has been in Pine Ridge for four days now. It feels like it was just yesterday that we arrived here. Today was our fourth day at Little Wound School. We continued our leadership camp with our Lakota friends. Today’s main topic for our leadership training was ethical decisions… making tough decisions in life that requires only one answer, either a yes or no.
As a little break from learning, we did some team building activities such as the balloon tower where we worked as a team to build the tallest tower. My team won! We were able to build our tower all the way up to the nose of the buffalo on the wall!
One thing that really stuck out to me from our leadership camp at the school was a video about a phenomenon known as the kindness boomerang. That means that one act of kindness leads into another one and so on. It has been very evident that kindness is a virtue here in Pine Ridge. Everyone has been so kind to us. This evening, one of our Pine Ridge friends invited us to his home to do some horseback riding. It was the first time that I’ve ever ridden a horse on a trail instead of just in a circle. It is now up to me to pass that kindness along to others to keep the kindness boomerang going.
