Today I woke up to a fierce competition between Kammer and his “Tommy cakes” facing off against Nahmie and his “Nahmie cakes.” Who makes the best pancakes? Too bad we never decided on a winner. The rest of the morning we were granted permission by our Lakota friends to climb up Eagle Nest Butte, where we sat upon the cliffs looking out at miles and miles of rolling hills. We enjoyed a nice cold sack lunch after our long hard hike up on the Butte.
After the hike we hit up the pool at Crazy Horse High School. Before I got to go to the pool, I got involved in a quick pickup game of basketball. I got to make some tighter bonds with the Lakota students in the pool. We dove off the deep end and played poolside basketball together. These bonds with new friends, will be ones I will never forget. After the swimming, we watched them receive their certificates for graduating from the camp this year. This was followed by a grill out dinner with brats, hot dogs, and burgers. I am really looking forward to sitting around the campfire tonight, and talking and sharing with my new friends.
