Today we started out the day with our first hot breakfast of the week. Between pancakes, bacon, and plenty of fruit, we all got enough in us to make it through our hike At Eagle Nest Butte. While the way up was exhausting, the view at the top was well worth it. At the top the breeze picked up (which made the 100 degree weather bearable) and you could see the rolling land for miles and miles in every direction. While up there looking at the beautiful scenery I could feel a sense of peace and all of my worries were left down at the bottom.
After this hike we headed over to Crazy Horse High School in Wanblee for some basketball, volleyball, and a much needed swim in the school’s indoor pool. Next, we held our graduation ceremony and community dinner in the commons where all of our Lakota friends who participated in the youth leadership camp received recognition for all of their good work this week. I truly feel as though every single person there who graduated the camp deserved it and will come out of it more capable of being a good leader, including our La Crosse campers. We couldn’t have had a better day for graduation and I can’t wait to show them our home in Wisconsin.
