Hello from Pine Ridge!
I have an entirely new team with me this year for our mobile mammography trip. Meet Ashli and Sarah who are the new mobile truck drivers. They are doing great! They have amazed Julie and I with their ability to navigate the roads and tight spaces. They were even asked yesterday at Kyle Clinic if they could take the truck over a curb, down the sidewalk and between two culverts to get out today if they put a construction trailer in front of the truck today. We decided that would be a very bad idea and adjusted our parking spot instead.
We had a wonderful visit with Sister Barb in Oglala Sunday night and Monday. She works nonstop, but is always there for anyone who needs her time or resources. We have had two nursing students, Frankie and Marsha, from Pine Ridge that have been with us at times doing patient education on breast health. Frankie is pictured doing her thing with one of the Oglala ladies.
Last night we checked into the Lakota Prairie Ranch Resort and happened to run into a group of people from the West Union Iowa area who are here donating clothes and needed supplies to the people in the area. It’s funny how you travel so far and run into people close to home. We are pictured with them at the Ranch Restaurant. We were extremely happy to finally have a hot meal!
We are just starting our third day seeing patients and have performed 52 mammograms so far. The efforts in Pine Ridge to get more patients in for mammograms has proven successful. While we are still seeing patients, there are more opportunities for them to have mammograms here at home with the support that Global Partners has provided them. The staff at Kyle clinic said they have never seen the IHS imaging software so full of mammograms. That is a wonderful thing!
